I plan to watch it again to gain further insight. Doesn't really deliver what it says it will. Is just okay. Definitely worth watching. Gives an interesting insight into banking sector in general, as I believe it is how it still works. Highly recommend! I will need a second viewing to get specific. Great simple and beautiful. It has some quasi-religious tags stuck to it.

If you had listened to yourself when you were working in the investment banking, talking about it like right now, would you have recognised yourself? And it took me 5 years to resocialize. I did it and I feel no shame confessing I needed professional help to do it.

You worked for 20 years in the investment bank, would you explain to us what you did in a sentence? Attracting clients to the banks I was working for in order to place bonds for them. For nearly 15 years, I worked with governments, with ministries like Hacienda. And in the last 5 years I worked with big companies, like Volkswagen. Did you earn a lot money? It may sound strange but it has nothing to do with money. This is an industry that attracts weak personalities.

They depend on outer appreciation too much. And that makes the whole issue so complicated. It feels like you were some kind of spy splitting up. Yeah, sometimes I think I turned into a bit of a virus. I mean, there are some realities we have to accept. Did you work a lot of hours? I was up at 7 AM, and then I was working all through the day. Very often I entertained clients in the evening, and then of course there was a lot of traveling. There was this case about this young man two years ago, he died working for Merrill Lynch.

He was two nights awake, a two-nighter as we call it. He worked for two nights in a row, and then he died because of an epileptic ocurrence. I had people, like young students, who came to me asking for one nighter. Because one friend of them had done it in another bank and they thought it would be like, you know, a pat on the shoulder or whatever. McKinsey or Deutsche Bank, or Santander, or whatever you call it… And your job becomes a sacrifice to the goddess. And in return you get, as I was saying before, money as a sign of affection.

And this is why I am talking about sect and religion. One day, you quited your job, your huge salary, your charge, everything. You left the sector, why? And with that set of values, I entered the profession at the late sixties. It was ok until the 98, 99, and And then the industry, and the society, in my view, changed. Human beings became less important , and it was all more about money, everything it was about money and also all was more aggressive, much more harsh in tone when people were discussing, and so on and so on… All of a sudden, all this stopped fitting my values.

And all that takes a lot of time, my case four, five, six years. Then, suddenly, you realize you have this flu and you have to do something about it. This is not ethical! Think of all those manipulation stories.

LIBOR manipulation. Where people have manipulated interest trades. It was in the press all the time. There is no direct profit for them. And the cynical answer, really, is that they do it because they can do it. When you were working in the Investment Banking, did you have the feeling that some of your activities could harm people, or even entire countries? If you realize that you affect something, you have to understand that chain of cause and effect. You do something, and this is happening.

The cause and effect. So then responsability turns into a cheap word. Along with other things, you used to work creating new investment products, why are banks constantly creating more? In Germany, we have 1. A big supermarket is 50, products, just to give an idea. Because in the banking area, the creation of a product does cost nearly zero.

And there is no patent right in financial products. As far as I know there is no word. So each bank can copy it. Whatever you do, one day later, another bank can copy it. And how did you make up those investment products? A good analogy could be medication, pills. You know what I mean? But you have to keep yourself entertained, to put it cynically.

When your bosses demanded you profits, was the way you got the benefits important to them? There were no discussions about that. No one questioned anything? Otherwise it would be criminal. There is no questioning.

The film uses the interview approach, and this results in an excellent firsthand witness account of the internal workings of the banking industry, and of the dynamics of the subculture. I already suspected a lot of the things presented here, but listening to a true witness speak with candor and sincerity helped me understand things more profoundly. This film may be a little bit depressing, but it is Red Pill i. This film should be a wake-up call to anyone with assets to loose. And in general, when asset values are destroyed, the social ecosystem is collateral damage.

This is actually something relatively old, but some days ago this became relevant and I had to make a transcription in English. It's from a Spanish programme, Salvados , that talks about politics and economy and brings up really interesting issues, in my opinion. And this episode was focused in the financial industry, about how banks intervene in our economy, which is something that is really hidden to the normal public.

I'd want to know what you think of it? Mr Rainer Voss, you stared in a documentary in which you openly talked about your job as banker. A lot of reasons to it. And the second reason is that I felt like somebody had to speak up. In the documentary, you see a lot of buildings from the inside and from the outside, with mirror windows, yeah?
